Teen Skin

Teen skin, or transition skin as I like to call it, can be incredibly frustrating!  You can’t just splash some water on it while you’re in the shower, nor can you aggressively wash and squeeze your pimples and expect positive results, in fact, that will only make things worse!

Tweens and teens experience some dramatic changes during adolescence.  This includes an increased production of hormones, which have effects on many different parts of the body, including the skin.  One of the most common issues with Teen skin is acne, in fact, approximately 90% of adolescence will be affected by acne.  Here are some Top Tips for controlling breakouts…

  • ‘Cleanse baby cleanse’ – Just like brushing your teeth, you should also cleanse your face twice a day.  Cleansing morning and night need to be your non-negotiable to remove excess oil to help stop causing congestion.

  • Moisturise! – Moisturising your skin after cleansing helps to regulate the oil your skin produces and keeps your skin hydrated.

  • Wash your pillowcases and face towels – this is where sweat, dirt, bacteria and other gross stuff can build and cause skin congestion.  Pillowcases and face towels should be washed at least once a week using a fragrance-free washing detergent, if possible (sometimes fragrance can irritate sensitive skin).

  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily – Your skin is the largest organ in your body and it’s made up of mostly water.  Drinking water throughout the day helps to remove toxins and bacteria on the skin, which keeps the skin healthy and helps to stop breakouts.
